Palace of Versailles

Friday we spent the entire day at the Palace of Versailles and the grounds around it. We travelled about 45 minutes on the metro and a train to the outskirts of Paris where the Palace is located. There was quite a crowd there, but Lynne assured us that it was nothing compared to the crowds during tourist season. The Palace was amazing with beautiful paintings and murals on the walls and ceilings--sumptious furnishings--fit for a king, I guess. In the process we learned quite a bit of French history and we find ourselves looking things up every night when we get back to our appartment.

The grounds were still a bit bleek since the night time temperatures still fall in the 30's--it would be fun to see them later in the spring. We also visited the "petit" palace where Marie Antoinette hung out when she was tired of the main palace. My pedometer read 10,792 steps when we finally got back so we are winding down resting our feet right now at 11:30pm which is 4:25 for you back home. In fact, I am so shocked that it is 11:30 that I am now going to bed because Lynne has a big day planned for us tomorrow--something about a flea market. More later.
